Welcome to the Part-time Continuation Education Interior Decorating Program
The objective of this program is to teach students to become professional interior decorators.
The part-time adult education program has been developed to address the needs and interests of
two categories of students: certificate and diploma. Vancouver only offers a diploma.
Course content is made up from knowledge and experience gleaned from the decorating industry. As appropriate, the class presentations will consist of: theory, practical demonstrations, and/or pictures, overheads, videos, and field trips.
It is the responsibility of the students to read the manual and complete and submit the assignments.
Marks are based on content and presentation.
Diploma requirements: Attendance of 340 hours of which:
Diploma students are expected to complete the program within 4 years
In order to benefit students, the courses in each district will rotate over four terms. It is the goal to offer courses each semester that will enable students to complete the program in an orderly and timely manner.
Note: The order in which to take courses is as follows:
Then the Electives according to the prerequisites:
According to the prerequisites, the Skills Enhancement courses can be taken any time after Basics, Color & Light. Note as an example: Color Boards after Color, Fabric Workshop after Fibers to Fabrics,
Furniture Arranging after Space Planning
The Final Project consists of about 100 hours of your time apart from the class sessions. Before being accepted into the Final Project course, the Diploma Application form must be filled in and sent to choices@shaw.ca
All certificates and diplomas are issued by the school district where you have taken the most courses. For proof of your attendance and marks, you must retain all of the letters of completion received from the school office after completing each course.
Missed Classes: It is the responsibility of the student to get missed info from another student
Assignments: You can expect 2.5 or more hours of home work for each class period of 2.5 hours
Tests: There is a multiple choice exam at the end of most courses
Students will get out of the courses as much as they put into them. Those who wish to excel are welcome to do so.
As is decorating, this program is in constant flux. In order to accommodate the interests and needs of the students, the existing courses are being refined and new courses added. Check the web site www.choicesid.com on a regular basis for the courses that are being offered in your district each semester.
It is the responsibility of the instructors to enlighten and guide the students. As decorating is a progressive industry, instructors spend a number of hours doing research and preparing for the classes. Because it is impossible for instructors to be knowledgeable in all respects, instructors teach specific courses. We ask that if you do not understand a concept, ask your instructor for clarification. Due to the immensity of the decorating field we do not claim to know all the answers to your questions, but will definitely look into inquiries and be as helpful as we can. Instructors we are not responsible for, and must work within, the physical environment of the school board facilities.
We hope you enjoy and learn the fine art of professional decorating from the classes.
